happy-go-lucky

such a simple concept

so hard to live out

circle all the good ideas in your journals

this simple organizational tactic will allow you to quickly skim through old journals and gleam the good ideas you were working on

as you are scribbling ideas, and thoughts, and to do lists, and poems, circle the pieces of writing that really stand out. you know what idea is great and what is just a thought. now, when you go back through old journals you will already have filtered your good ideas and late night thoughts. you’ll be able to easily find the poems and the entrepreneurial ideas that you would have otherwise forgot. you’ll also be more inclined to go through those old journals because your forgotten goods are there just waiting for you. if your journal is a scribbled mess of ideas and thoughts (which i believe is the best way to get unfiltered thoughts out of your head) then you might just benefit from this organization tactic

on a freeway in LA it ain’t about the fastest car

it’s about the braver more reckless driver

when it’s all said and done

and my last pen has run out of ink

i hope i’ll have helped

a few writers and artists

become more themselves

even just a little bit

and ill be happy with that

i’ll have played my part

done my bit

to change the world

and help some others

make good art

i just spent $40 on thai food just to remember how things were with you

don’t let your tough relationships kill your vibe

protect yourself, create over the white noise and lack of clarity these hard relationships in your life are causing. every person has these relationships, its natural. i’m sure you’ve learned by now that people aren’t always going to be supportive of what you are trying to create. only you have the vision of what you are going to create. no one else. unfortunately, other people think they know exactly what you are trying to build and why it won’t work. just let that bounce off because your head is guarded by a helmet of incredible fucking energy that is surrounding your project. here’s the thing, if your project doesn’t work you have still created something. all this other person has done is been the riot police in the face of your impossible resistance.

my drinks cost the same as my parking ticket and i didn’t know which was less fair

oh the coffee's made my stomach sick

and this conversations got my heart all wrecked

but oh i know, there will be a beer later and a little time for some writing

before some chaos of conversations with strangers

who somehow understand the part of me that’s in hiding

a 2022 jeep on the freeway

not a scratch or dent in sight

no dirt had touched this machine

roof rack looks polished and

his winch is locked tight

what a waste of a mechanical thing

a 2022 jeep

made for city slickers to keep clean

i grew up in a culture defined by tall-poppy syndrome, everyone was constantly getting cut down. now, when people cut me down it feels so backwards. get with the times.

writing doesn’t happen on instagram

neither does painting, or making music, or getting a mother-effing hug.

use the platform, its a good tool, for marketing, but its just one tool in your belt, you have plenty of others available don’t forget. and, whats more important than your marketing tools? writing. actually scribbling or typing. real life pen and paper or hammering keys work. not insta.

my new grunt test for stories im writing

is to ask a random person at a bar if i can tell them a story

if i start to tell it and i see their eyes light up

the stories passed the test

but if they lose interest

and grab another beer instead

there’s work to do

and my drinkings got to wait

creativity hack 020

clarity wins

as soon as you wake up in the morning everything is pushing you away from clarity. you start to devolve your great and simple ideas into something confusing and messy. your job is to reign that in, keep simplifying. get back to the simple idea, the essence of what you are trying to create, as often as you can.

doubt yourself for another 5 mins…

okay now your done.

lost truly,

Leo Lawrence

fin,

for now
